Bridget Presents the Running Mainifesto

Our resident poet, writer and all round person of greatness dropped this most excellent creative task on us last night. Definitely one to check out when you have a quite moment to spare. Enjoy

WRITE YOUR OWN RUNNING MANIFESTO

A manifesto is “a public declaration of something you believe in”, so what better thing to write a manifesto about than running? Think about it carefully and read it whenever you can’t be bothered to go for a long Sunday run or at mile 19 when everything hurts like crazy. Every week a different person’s running manifesto will be read out at Run Dem Crew.

To start you off, just finish off the sentences (as simply as possible is better, and in any order):

Running is…
Running is not…
I run…
I run for…
I run because…
I run when…
I run with…

I have never run…
I have always ran…
I run in spite of…
I don’t run…
I should run…
I might run…
I will run…

Once you’ve done that, think of the thing you like doing most in the world and write a manifesto for that too, replacing the word “run” with whatever the action you use to do your favourite thing is. If your favourite thing is football, your manifesto would be “I play football…” or just “I play”. You could use “I play…” for music too, or use “I watch” if you love film. Cool? Have fun. Sometimes it’s really eye-opening (I know it was for me) to think clearly about why you do (or don’t do) your favourite things.
